Does anyone have any tips on how to grow sweet peas?

I planted some in late may, they did horible. They are only 8 inches tall, and still haven't bloomed. I seen on TV that their sweet peas are about 6 feet tall right now. How can I get mine to grow that tall, and bloom fast? Any tips or suggestions? I live in Zone 5, Ontario Canada. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any tips on how to grow sweet peas?
Thanks again for the hardiness zone reference. I am also in zone 5.

My sweet peas also did poorly. I suspect that our cool nights might have slowed down the growth. Or perhaps cool ground temperature. Try a weekly dose of a water soluble fertilizer, such as Ferti-lome 'rooting and blooming solution'.

Otherwise monitor the amount of water (not too much/ too little). Ofcourse, mine did poorly and then were finished off by the rabbits, the ravenous rabbits, so I couldn't try anything to encourage them to grow. I'll have to live vicariously through my answers...

I hope that this helps
Reply:1) Like peas, they need something to climb on. Do you have a trellis or strings or a fence out for them to grow up?

2) They don't like to get too dry. Water them every day.

3) Is your seed old? Was it packaged for this year?

4) Peas like really fertile topsoil w/ lots of manure/humus in it. How's your soil? Your county extension agent will test it for free for you. If it's too acidic or too alkaline, they can and will tell you what to do for free.

5) Are your sweet peas getting enough sun, or did you plant them in a place that's too shady?

6) Have you fertilized them? Try some MiracleGro and see if that helps.

7) Have you weeded around them so that they are not in any kind of competition w/ weeds or other plants for nutrients?

That's all I can think of now. Good luck to you!

Is there a special way to grow sweet peas?

im not very good with gardening and thort sweet peas wud be easy to grow but sum1 told me they were quite hard to grow.

Is there a special way to grow sweet peas?
I grew sweet peas and they are easy to grow, I had success, and they were delicious...The most important thing to remember is sweet peas are a cold weather plant...free of frost of course, I bought "Martha Stewart" seeds and followed the directions on the back, and it worked. Make sure when you plant you seeds that they are in a nice row, and not too crowded, that's where "thinning" comes in...Just remember that they cannot take the heat...and when watering them water them from the bottom (in the soil) and not overhead watering and they are subject to "mold disease", although I believe her seeds are "mold proof". If you're talking about the flowers, they are easy also, same rule applies about the heat, and they must have strings or a fence to climb.
Reply:Plant them in some new soil so that they have plenty of nutrients, keep them watered, especially during this hot weather, and they will need a trellis or something to climb up. When they are flowering you will need to cut them daily (they smell gorgeous indoors in a vase) and this will encourage them to keep on flowering. They are very easy to grow and a beautiful flower.
Reply:As you are not good with gardening the best thing to do would be to buy the plants now.

They are sold quite cheaply ready grown in little pots and usually come in to nurseries/ garden centres about the same time as the bedding does. Plant in the ground (adding some nice copmpost to the planting hole) not in pots as they never seem to do too well if confined and give them a good general purpose feed.

When they have finished flowering do not pull them out. Wait until the seeds have ripened...they are in pea pods and the pods will dry and go brown when the seed is ripe....and plant the seeds straight away where you want them to grow for the following year. That way you will have sweetpeas growing much earlier in the season and can keep an endless supply of them going. I do this with mine every year, works a treat :)
Reply:Depends if you are using plants or seeds? If plants they are easy just watch out for slugs!

And seeds are easy too!

The only contorversey i have come across with sweet peas is whether you should soak the seeds prior to planting, some packets say you should and others don't mention it. I have tried both ways and both work but...soaking the seeds first i found that the soil was a bit stodgy and seeds were moldy green things that had managed to sprout!!!
Reply:Use the dark arts. Black magic can help them grow. I know this because vampires love them. But careful what spell you use. One might make them mutate and eat you alive....wait..is that a bad thing?
Reply:no, they are quite easy, just plant them in your backyard, their not that hard to grow.you might also want to grow them in pots first.
Reply:They have to be grown against a frame or an obelisk because they are climbers. We planted some yesterday so all we have to do now is water them and feed them occasionally.
Reply:the best way is to soak the seeds in warm water in a flask over night and then plant in compost with feed built in

Guys- do you prefer banana scent or sweet pea scent?

banana smells, well, like banana and a flower, sweet pea smells a bit like a sweet cross between a rose and carnation

on a girl that is. thanks

Guys- do you prefer banana scent or sweet pea scent?
It all depends on your personel feelings toward it. I believe that each girl or woman has their own scent, it makes them different from everyone else...If Bananna doesn't fit, than try the other...We don't care about scents anyway, just how a woman/ girl carries herself....
Reply:I like the smell of sweet pea better {on a girl}
Reply:I would go with Sweet Pea. Banana isn't really feminine.

Personally I prefer Juniper Breeze.
Reply:I'm not guy, but I don't like either scent, particularly the banana. The only time I like to smell banana is if I'm eating a banana.
Reply:Yuck... all of those suck.

What is the Best support for sweet peas?

Should I use bamboo sticks, chicken wire fence or just staple twine up and down against the fence I planted them?

last time I used plastic netting and the sweet peas looked straggly and did'nt seem to like the netting. Any experienced suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What is the Best support for sweet peas?
I grow sweet peas every year, and they require a little more care than some flowers. I seem to have the best luck using trellises. You can get them inexpensively almost anywhere. Another thing that works well is fishing line. Get a dowel cut to the length you need, run it along the top of the fenceline, and tie fishing line, so that it hangs down to the ground. The vines will grow up them.
Reply:I've always been disappointed with climbing sweet peas, lovely flower, make good cut flowers for indoors, but too well liked by the slugs and snails - too high maintenance, in fact! As a suggestion, instead of using bamboo canes use 'pea sticks' if you have done any hard pruning earlier keep back 3' lengths of twigs and use these instead of bamboo - looks more natural.
Reply:I like bamboo stakes. Use four and position them like a tepee. Use natural color twine to tie them at the top. When the plant reaches the top of the "tepee", cut it so that the base bushes out more.

good luck.

PS - buy the snail a beer

Can you grow sweet peas to hang down without any support?

I want to grow sweet peas to hand down a garden wall. they are ready for planting out now. can I risk it?

Can you grow sweet peas to hang down without any support?
you should harden off if they are in side, they will hang down alright but as they get big you will need to put some stones over roots to hold them there
Reply:I have grown sweet peas in hanging baskets and in window boxes and they will hang nicely. I have had 4 or 5 foot long tendrils come out of window boxes. You can plant sweet peas this time of year as they like cooler weather.

If you want them to run down a wall you will have to use fencing or netting and use little twistie ties to force them the direction you want.
Reply:it should work but wait a little while longer before putting out and acclimatise first, you can also get trailing varieties which would work.
Reply:You can try - they have an upward growing habit, but it could work. I'd be interested in hearing about your results.

My cat activley seeks out fights.. but she is just a sweet pea...?

WHAT do we do.. we have a cat that she tolerates but with anything else she will go ape crap... she is also very sweet to humans... what do we do??

My cat activley seeks out fights.. but she is just a sweet pea...?
She's probably protecting her territory...is she spayed? Maybe if she isn't she's fighting over the guys!!!! She sounds like you let her outdoors, if she gets beat up it could be expensive for you. She probably gets aggravated with other cats roaming around where she lives....good luck.
Reply:if you have any other animal, besides the amiable cat, in the house, i suggest keeping it(the other animal) and your cat in separate rooms, or if your cat is outdoors, assure that it is outdoors before letting anything else into your house. She might just be territorial, which isn't uncommon

Sweet pea question?

i am trying to grow sweet peas...i soaked the seeds overnight, planted about 6 in each pot, gave them water and left them....they have now shot up to about 25\30 cm,and need to know what to do with them now....they have been in my untility room since seeding them,,,,anyone help?

Sweet pea question?
Sweet peas are one of the easiest flowering annuals to start from seed because you can direct seed them into the garden. Give them a site with full to partial sun and deep, rich, loamy, moist, but well-drained soil. Add plenty of organic matter (compost, well-rotted manure, leaf mold, or humus) to enrich the soil and make it easier to work.

This annual climber is most successful when you start the seeds during cooler seasons. In the warmer parts of western North America, you can sow the seeds from August on to maximize winter and spring flowering. Although sweet peas can be killed back by hard freezes, they are reasonably cold hardy and can take frost without much damage to plants. In western regions with cooler night temperatures bloom time will extend further into the summer months.

In the drier and colder mid-west and the colder parts of Canada, start sweet peas early indoors for transplanting into the garden, or sow them directly into the garden very early in spring.

In the American south, you can sow seed in November or December for early spring flowers.

Sweet peas need about 50 days of cool temperatures – under 60ºF (15ºC) to bloom gloriously in your garden.

Although the seeds have a hard seed coat, there's no evidence that soaking them before sowing will increase your germination rate, however, carefully nicking the outside seed coating does speed and increase germination. You can easily do this by using a nail clipper to score the seed coat.

Sweet pea seeds will germinate in soil at temperatures of 55º to 65ºF (13º to 18ºC). In cold winter areas, plan to sow them outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked – up to six weeks before the last frost date.

Plant seeds in holes that are about two inches deep. Drop two to four seeds per hole, with holes spaced four to six inches apart. Water thoroughly and keep soil moist until seeds have sprouted. You should see germination in about 10 to 21 days.

Once the seedlings are growing, water regularly to promote strong, healthy growth. When the seedlings are three to four inches high, thin them out, leaving the most vigorous-looking plants four to six inches apart. Once the plants have been thinned, mulch them well; a four- to six-inch layer of organic mulch will keep the roots cool and extend the growing season.

Sowing seeds each week over several weeks will further extend the time you get to enjoy their flowers.

Avoid over-fertilizing or you'll wind up with lots of green leaves but few flowers. A sprinkling of balanced 20-20-20 slow release fertilizer or generous shovel of compost or well-rotted manure blended into the soil at planting time works well for initial plant development.

Alternatively, organic fertilizers are also excellent for sweet peas. Additional mulching with composted manure will help retain soil moisture and provide nutrients for strong plant growth and flowering.

If you don't cut blooms regularly, deadhead the plant as soon as flowers fade. Removing spent blooms will give you more flowers.
Reply:One inch deep will do it.

What does the Sweet Pea Bath and Body Works fragrance smell like? Can anyone describe it? I already have .....

the Japanese Cherry Blossom line and I like it but it's a little too strong for my taste (and also my husband didn't like it all that much either, he said it was really strong and gave him a headache after a while). So I've heard alot of people's favorite is the Sweet Pea one - I don't have a Bath and Body Works anywhere near where I live, so I can't just go in and smell them all to see which I like, I have to actually buy some online (usually from eBay) and then see if I like it. So is the Sweet Pea line more subtle than the Japanese Cherry Blossom?

What does the Sweet Pea Bath and Body Works fragrance smell like? Can anyone describe it? I already have .....
The scent of violets mingling with sweet pea petals is heaven on earth, and the inspiration for this delicate fragrance.

Fragrance Top Notes: Sweet Pea, Watery Pear, Logan Berry, Rhubarb

Fragrance Mid Notes: Cyclamen, Freesia, Raspberry

Fragrance Base Notes: Musk
Reply:All I can say is it is like heaven. It's my favorite! Very sweet smelling, not sure how to describe it, except maybe that it's like a cross between the smell of sweet nectar and sweet grass. Yeah, basically like heaven. I don't know about the cherry blossom so I can't compare it.

Child swallows small round metal or plastic object? Size of a little sweet pea or small tac...what do you do?

Should you call the doctor or will it pass in the stool? It just worries me with all the recent stories of lead in the toys from China

Child swallows small round metal or plastic object? Size of a little sweet pea or small tac...what do you do?
if its plastic he'll be fine but if its metal i think you should call the poisin center or something like that then they'll tell u what to do as for plastic he'll be fine how do i know i used to eat plastic beads when i was little don't know why but i turned out fine( don't judge me)
Reply:If you're concerned about anything that has to do with your child's health, go ahead and call the doctor. They aren't going to mind, and it will help put your mind at ease if there is no problem - or it could help prevent a problem.
Reply:What kind of small metal object is it? To be on the safe side I would call my pediatrician and see what they suggest..there is the possibility that the child could get sick from whatever it is made of.

If you have a children's hospital nearby you might be able to give them a ring and see what the say...

If they are concerned they will usually run an x-ray and see where the object is, how big it is and in most cases it can be safely passed in the stool.

Good luck
Reply:It'll pass with no problem. The lead's in paint, no usually the object itself.

Relax!!

.
Reply:i would call the doctor, he might suggest that he should

pass it in his stool, he might even prescribe a laxative since

you don't know if it had lead or not.
Reply:You call your doctor of course!!!!!!!!! You do not sit and worry, you do not ask strangers on the internet -- you call the doctor!
Reply:What was it?? If it was pointy or you think it might cause damage going through his digestive system you might want to seek medical care. If it will cause him harm they can pump his stomach and get it out.
Reply:Well something like a Polly Pocket rubber shoe isn't SO bad, but nothing being swalled that's toxic is never good!

If it is sharp it is dangerous. It has to bump into and travel all through the body. Lots of bruises and maybe inside bleeding.
Reply:Call your doctor, but they will probably tell you to just watch the child and see if it passes. My son has a hobby of eating small barrettes and so far they've all made the trip out so I wouldn't worry too much, some, but not too much. Usually the day before it comes through he's super cranky and restless and it takes 2-3 days or so be prepared for the wait.
Reply:I think its totally fine I swollowed a quarter when i was little and nothing happened so I wouldn't worry it going to be okay!

Can you eat sweet pea seeds?

I know sweet pea is a flower, but doesnt it also mean you are cute if someone calls you it?

Only if you're hangin with Popeye...

Akakakakak....

I know sweet pea is a flower, but doesnt it also mean you are cute if someone calls you it?
I call all my kids that, as well as peanut.
Reply:Of course it does, Pumkinhead.
Reply:yes... however if used with sarcasm and towards a male from another male...both straight... then it could be taken as an offensive term...

for example... 2 guys are at work...both rednecks... Guy "A" ...we will call him Bob... says to Guy "B" (we will call him Jim) "hay Jim, go git me that thar knaaf off that shelf its a too hord for may to git, think i mighta ated me some bad bikits and gravey dis monin... "

...then Jim who hates being told what to do and rarely is asked kindly by Bob replies with ... "SURE SWEET PEA...can i git ya anything else?.... "

so as you see Jim was trying to be offensive in his reply because he was bitter about being told and not asked...
Reply:yes
Reply:yes, it is an affectionate term.
Reply:Yes I called my daughter that when she was a baby, its a term of endearment :)

Do I need to pluck off the tops of my sweet peas to improve their growth?

My mum told me that I need to pinch of the tips of my sweet pea plants in order to improve their flowering later. Is this right? If so, how much do I pluck off? thanks!

Do I need to pluck off the tops of my sweet peas to improve their growth?
As mentioned, plucking off the tip help the plant to make more side shoots (branches out) and thus one plant will cover a larger section of fence. To keep the plant flowering as long as possible, even up to the first frost, you have to keep snipping off flowers for the vase, and all bits of flowers that have finished flowering. If you let the flowered bits become seeds, then the plant will not last the whole summer. The whole idea of a plant flowering, is so that the plant can make seeds to reproduce itself. If you keep on removing the seeds then the plant will continuously make new flowers for its reproduction. If you want to keep a few seed for next year´s so wings, it´s wise to tie a bit of wool around the stem of a special colour to remind yourself not to cut it off.
Reply:Yes. And pick the flowers when they come to encourage lots more to grow.
Reply:Yes to encourage flowers pluck of the top leader
Reply:plucking and pinching are two different things ... to get more flowers you need to "pinch" out the growing tips ... after you have got 3 true pairs of leaves pinch out the growing tip ... then once they start flowering you need to pick the flowers daily ... so the plants don't stop producing flowers
Reply:Some clever varieties are naturally dwarf and bushy, pinching out is not required. With the standard tall growing Spencer varieties you can nip out the growing tips at 2 full leaves.
Reply:If you pluck to the tops, you will encourage the side growth, this will delay the full top growth It will not affect the timing of flowering, which will be more since the side growth will have more buds. this is usually done on mums to have more flowers. It is call heading.
Reply:No need as that just makes them bushier. What you need to do is to remove all the flowers as they die. Once they set seed then they will stop flowering if the seed pods are allowed to develop.
Reply:If you remove the growing tips at the top of a plant it causes it to bush out so once you've established a good height spread you could do this to give more horizontal growth and hopefully lots more flowers :)

What is sweet pea doing showing at fashion week?

I just saw on bravotv.com that she showed... anyone know the story behind this? or did i just not realize they let everyone show anyway%26gt;

What is sweet pea doing showing at fashion week?
Yes this season (like seasons before) they did a few decoy lines as well. This keeps the public from finding out the final three in Project Runway each season! I hope that Chris makes it over Rami! Im so sick of seeing the same thing from him!
Reply:Sweet P was used as a decoy..
Reply:She was a decoy - the producers had the final five contestants show at fashion week so we would not know who the three finalists were. I'm curious to see who the third finalist will be, Chris or Rami.

How do moms get in a habit of calling their kids names like sweetie, sweetheart, sweet pea, honey, pumpkin, etc.?

When you love someone so much that you would die for them, names like that just come naturally. I do not have children but I love my neice that much and i can't help but calling her sweetheart, baby girl, etc.

Hope this helps!

Its just a specail love you have.

How do moms get in a habit of calling their kids names like sweetie, sweetheart, sweet pea, honey, pumpkin, etc.?
its just a natural habit.
Reply:its quite easy to get into a habit of calling your child something else - when the baby is so new and you are still getting used to the name you have decided on and sometimes you just pick a nickname and it sticks - I call my daughter pumkin and my darling (she really likes this one) and her father calls her rastis!! and her grandmother calls her charlie!! so she has lots of different nicknames.
Reply:Starts from when they are in there belly I think. You have no idea what your having (boy/girl) so you need a name that you can use. Apparently it does help talking to you belly in the later stages and the unborn child recognises voices and sounds. Calling a unborn child a pet name could calm it. I keep calling my belly 'baby'.
Reply:Because they feel affection and love for them and think this is a way to show it.
Reply:I have no idea how this happened...but I started calling my daughter 'Princess' sometimes...and I don't even like that name. I prefer calling her Angel, which is her name, it's so strange how I started using 'Princess'.
Reply:It normally happens when they have more than one child - and it's easier than trying to remember that child's particular name!@~
Reply:I started when my kiddos were babies. It just sounds cuter than thier name. I am from Texas, everone is hunny, sweetie, or baby.
Reply:Pet names are just fun. Many parents create them while the baby is still in utero.
Reply:because they where called that as a kid, and it made them happy.

i am a dad with 4 sons, i call them the same things my dad use to call me.

sunshine, lad, boyo, sprog, rat bag, flea bag

their are of course playful nicknames ;)
Reply:It's just something that comes naturally.
Reply:Just by doing it!

It is how you feel.
Reply:Just happens! I call my little girl pumpkin or booba, why? I have absolutely no idea. I called my son booger up until recently, just habits that start because they are cute.
Reply:Just a way of showing extra affection. :)

My daughter is Pumpkin to my husband, Princess and Sweetness to me.

My son is Buddy to my husband, and to me, he's my SweetPea and Prince.
Reply:I know that my husband and I have started to call our little girl (who still has 8 weeks to go until her birthday!) bug because she moves around so much! Now the whole family asks how bug, babybug, or emmabug (her name will be emmalynne) is doing...it is funny how nicknames start but very sweet!

Why won't my sweet pea seeds grow??

Two packs so far soaked overnight, planted in sunny spot, soil is pretty good it's in 70's here northern Ca. Planted them one at a time why why why???

Why won't my sweet pea seeds grow??
how long ago? they can take 2 weeks

how deep? no deeper that 1 inch

how were the seeds stored/ old seeds?
Reply:well first

1.did u plant it in fertilizied soil

2.does it have sun light

3.does it have enough water(dont put to much water)

4.they are sometimes planted in the ground so maybe u dont see your sweet peas growing they probably are growing underground so you have to pull it out
Reply:how long have the seeds been in the ground? check for animal foot prints! because squeals will dig up the seeds and most likely eat them!! other wize wait for a bit more, keep the soil moist, but not soaked, and it should come up soon.......... i have never had that happen in my life with peas!!! they all came up fast and grew pretty quick! hope this helps!
Reply:Try using an inoculate before you plant the seeds. Sometimes the pea will not germinate without it. You wet the pea seeds and cover them with the inoculate before planting.

Do you have to soak sweet pea seeds before planting?

No, it does make them sprout a little faster if you do, but you also have to watch them closer. If you soak them and they begin to sprout, then they dry out they will die. I find it much better to plant them directly.

Do you have to soak sweet pea seeds before planting?
No, But some times it helps.
Reply:no,makes no difference.plant in normal way.
Reply:no ,but it takes longer for them to sprout
Reply:Yes.soak in warm water.I soak mine for 24 hours and they have never let me down yet !!
Reply:. They can rot if you soak them, try sanding instead.
Reply:DON'T ASK US!!

Plant twenty without soaking, twenty soaked, and twenty with the seed case (testa) chipped. Then you'll know the answer! Has anyone here tried it?
Reply:http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles110...

Use the above link for all the info you need on growing them.
Reply:Yes and my Dad used to file a fine slit in the outer shell.
Reply:Fairly certain I watched Alan Titchmarsh on Gardeners World - and he said it was a myth. I never do.
Reply:No but it helps. I always soak mine overnight in warm water then plant them out.
Reply:Either soak them overnight or nick the hard outer skin with a sharp blade. If you dont it just takes slightly longer to germinate.
Reply:yes you do overnight
Reply:yes.

put on a lid or plastic container and put in you hot press watch them for some are covered with a crust and this is just to protect the seed then they have a little green shoot coming out of the package plant.
Reply:You don't have to but they will germinate faster, just dont leave them in the water more than 2 days or they will rot,you can do the same with corn
Reply:If you have had problems with germination try giving them a helping hand. This is often called scarifying, soaking or chipping. The surface of the seed has a hard coating that stops moisture being absorbed and this can stop or reduce the germination of the seed. All that is needed to help this is for the outer surface to be scratched, rubbed or chipped away to allow the water to pass through. Use a small piece of emery paper to rub over the seed coat; or very carefully, using a sharp knife, chip away as mall piece of the seed coat at the opposite or furthest end of the seed to the "eye". Soak the sweet pea seeds in a bowl of hand hot water for 2 hours and then sow immediately.
Reply:The darker coloured seeds are usually much harder than the others. It is normally advisable to soak these for a day. If you sow the seeds in the autumn then i would definitely advise this.

Another tip for the harder seeds is to scuff them slightly with fine sandpaper, this also helps them germinate.

PLZ HELP!What is the structure and appearance of the plant "Sweet Pea"?

It is an annual climbing plant, growing to a height of 1-2 m where suitable support is available. The leaves are pinnate with two leaflets and a terminal tendril, this twining round supporting plants to help it climb. The flowers are purple, 2-3.5 cm broad, in the wild plant, larger and very variable in colour in the many cultivars..

PLZ HELP!What is the structure and appearance of the plant "Sweet Pea"?
sweetpea is a vine,,it is very delicate and it has small sweet smelling floweres in spring,,,

Gta vice city mp question

Is the flower of the sweet pea edible? Not the vegetable variety but the fregrant flower?

At this website:

http://whatscookingamerica.net/EdibleFlo...

They wrote: Pea Blossoms - NOTE: Flowering ornamental sweet peas are poisonous. Edible garden peas bloom mostly in white, but may have other pale coloring. The blossoms are slightly sweet and crunchy and they taste like peas. The shoots and vine tendrils are edible, with a delicate, pea-like flavor. Here again, remember that harvesting blooms will diminish your pea harvest, so you may want to plant extra.

---------------------

If it doesn't produce edible pea pods Don't eat those flowers. You can go to the website and see what other flowers are edible.

Don't get your way all you do is fuss and pout

You're the only reason I keep on coming home

I like the Rock of Gibraltar

I always seem to falter

And the words just get in the way

Oh I know I'm gonna crumble

I'm trying to stay humble

But I never think before I say

Do sweet pea vines thrive in Colorado?

Sweet Pea vines like cooler weather. As soon as ground thaws enough you can plant seeds and being in Colorado they should thrive.

Just keep them watered and deadheaded and they should last into the summer. ONce it starts getting really warm is when the plants will start slowing down. If you get really hot temperatures the plant will totally shut down.

I plant my sweet peas in pots and come late June or July I move pots in shadier spot and have to water more often. If you can get them to survive July and August...the plants may revitalize themselves and go late into fall.

Good luck!

My sweet pea plants leaves turn brown from the bottom, I am told it is leaf scourch, what is the answer.?

It does sound like leaf scourch... do you water your plants when it's sunny out? Instead to it at night. The water on the leaves of the plant are acting like a magnifying glass and burning them... ouch!

My sweet pea plants leaves turn brown from the bottom, I am told it is leaf scourch, what is the answer.?
I have the same problem with my Morning Glories, what I have found to do is in the evening water them and then take a squirt bottle and mist the leaves. It has helped alot. Report It

What does a sweet pea body lotion smell like?

does the lotion and spray smell good? I'm going to order it online because I am not currently in the US so I can't yet decide if I like its fragnance or not. I'll get either the one from Bath and Body Works or The secrets of Paradise. Anyone tried any of them? Does it have a strong scent?

What does a sweet pea body lotion smell like?
It smells wonderful! It has a sweet, floral scent with violets and sweet peas at first and then this berry fragrance. I use it all the time, and if you only use a little of the lotion, it won't be overpowering.

The website below can give you the idea if you haven't seen it yet.

3 questions about sweet pea?

I have a seed packet of Streamer Mixed Sweet Pea. It says on the packet that it will grow to 6 feet tall but it doesn't give any other information except plant spacing which is 6 inches.

1. Would I be correct in assuming this one a vining variety?

2. How far can I expect it to spread out?

3. If it is a vining variety, will twine be strong enough for it to climb?

Thank you

3 questions about sweet pea?
Most sweet peas are viners. The 6 ft is the average for the variety you've chosen, plant doesn't grow out only up. Twine isn't the best since it is less likey to stand the weight and weather over time. A trellis or garden gate is a better solution for a long term situation whether for decorative or kitchen garden purposes (since they'll seed and grow back). We had them growing wild by one of our previous houses, so support isn't necessarily a needed requirement for these plants. It's more about their purpose and how you want them displayed.
Reply:if they take they will grow very beautiful and wild.I planted some in my backyard and they are beautiful..Read the back of packet and it will tell you the directions.you can put a stick there but i had no problems they did it themselves.

What does Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea scent make you think of?

It makes me think of the first vacation my husband took me on. He bought me some sweet pea body wash and lotion because my usual scents were making me sick. I was pregnant at the time.

Is sweet pea soup any good whats the best recipe for it?

If you go to food network web site I've seen it made on Barefoot Contessa and Everyday Italian. Basically, sautee chopped onion and/or leeks, add stock and peas, puree with a stick blender or in a blender pour back into the pan and add a little cream. They both used frozen green peas, I believe, because they are the next best thing to fresh. I haven't made either yet, but I've been thinking about it.

Is sweet pea soup any good whats the best recipe for it?
hey whasup !

i think your looking for SPLIT PEA soup

fairly simple dish

brown some bacon ,chopped onions, tomato ,garlic drain and add stock or jus water add dry peas to stock ,bring to boil , reduce heat ,cover and simmer till peas are soft season with salt... you can also add some ham for an extra.
Reply:Easy Sweet Pea Soup

20 min | 5 min prep | SERVES 3 -4

Ingredients

1 (12 ounce) package frozen peas

water, to cover

1/2-1 cup chicken broth

1 pinch sugar

1 dash nutmeg

salt

pepper

1/4 cup sour cream

Directions

1Cook frozen peas in a saucepan with water; cover and cook until peas are very tender (but not overly wrinkly).

2Then drain and whir the peas in the blender or food processor until soup-like in texture, adding the chicken stock as necessary (you want a nice thick soup).

3Take whirred peas from blender and put back into the saucepan, adding the pinch sugar, nutmeg, and salt/pepper.

4Heat through.

5Swirl a little sour cream into each serving, and this dish looks and tastes great!

6Makes 3 to 4 servings.

7You can add a little bit of minced onion in, if you like, and a few sliced mushrooms are good, too.
Reply:Sweet peas are flowers.

Try green lentils, boiled in water or chicken stock.

Proportions are not critical, try 3:1 liquid to peas.

You can add a little diced carrot %26amp; celery for flavour.
Reply:boil one pots of water, make sure its boiling pour in the peas blanch for few minutes or soften strain the peas and cool down in cold water. blend and strainthe peas. heat up the soup season w salt and pepper and lastly cream abit if love abit mint can put in few mint leaf and blend w it
Reply:The first answerer is right that sweet peas are flowers, but maybe you're referring to the sweet tasting sugar snap peas or snow peas. I use dried green peas for soup and just use the recipe off the back of the bag. For sugar snap or snow peas, they're delicious in a stir fry or simply steamed and served as a side dish with a little salt and butter.

Another sweet pea question?

a few weeks ago i was rather worried my sweet peas were not flowering now they have started to and some have actully got some pea pods on them is this suppossed to happen

Another sweet pea question?
take the pods off unless you want to get seed for next year, you will get more flowers if you take the pods off.
Reply:It is normal, but if you want more flowers you must take off all the dead flowers
Reply:You should pinch the flowers off after they have gone past their best as the plant puts its energy into making the pods, rather than more flowers! Extend the flowering time by doing this and you'll have more flowers to enjoy.
Reply:Do you mean are they supposed to get pods? yes, and it's dissapointing that the flowers don 't last longer.....
Reply:Yes they are meant to have pea pods on them.....they have the new seeds in them! You can either leave them on the plant and they'll naturally dry out, split and scatter seeds on the ground for next year or you can wait until they go really brown and dry and pick them off (just before they split) to save until spring when you can sow them yourself. They take longer than you expect to dry out but keep an eye on them!

As for the flowers, if you cut the flowers (put indoors in little vases) it encourages the plant to flower even more! Don't cut them all off though, you want some left outside to look at!!!
Reply:yes that is normal

What are the uses of the sweet pea plant?

Sweet peas, as in the flower as opposed to the vegetable, are generally grown for the fragrance as well as the ability to produce a temporary privacy screen if provide with something to climb ie a trellis, fence etc. They can also be grown as a sprawling ground cover for a bare area if the are not given something to climb and are allowed to *flop* on the ground.
