i was wondering if they were because i would like to start planting them along my fence but if it is poisonous to dogs and children then I'm obviously going to choose a different climber this year. any suggestions for climbers in zone 5a?
Are sweet peas poisonious to dogs?
i don't think they are. actually if you break one of the stems and see a milk colour liquid comming out of it then refrain as it may be poisonous to both human and animals.
Reply:if they are not poisonous to humans, definetely not to dogs

What is the best way to plant sweet peas from seed?
I have an old gardening book with about three pages of somewhat conflicting advice. The universal element appears to be well aged manure and secondarily, lots of well rotted leaves.
I have never had success with annual sweet peas (although I do have the perennial) in all my years of gardening and I have river bottom soil in my garden. This year, I added lots of chicken manure and decaying leaves to various areas of the garden and planted sweet peas. I soaked some of the seeds, did not soak others - I will see what happens. The seeds should be sprouting shortly. Mid April is about as late as the seeds can be planted here in Ohio, Zone 5b. A lot of the directions say to plant as soon as the soil can be worked. Once the weather heats up, there is no chance at all.
What is the best way to plant sweet peas from seed?
soak them in a saucer of water and kitchen paper for a week or more until they sprout.then plant out in pots or outside if weather is suitable.

Sweet Peas when do I take off the pods please?
Hi My sweet peas have finished flowering unfortunatley and am left with just the pods which have seeds in them I presume can anyone help with what I do with this pods and when. Many thanks
Sweet Peas when do I take off the pods please?
If the pods are still green you may still be in time to encourage more flowers by cutting them all off now and watering the plants well. It you want to save the seeds however wait till the pods start to lose their colour and then pick them and put them in a paper not plastic bag to finish ripening/drying out.If the peas are not the "vegatable" type do not eat them.
Reply:I'm going to take it you mean the type of flowers that are known as sweet peas and not the vegetable. If you're wanting to collect seed pods in order to use the seeds next year, you need to wait until they're dry. Try to do it before the first frost, because that will often cause the pods to open and the seeds fall out. Otherwise, just let them become quite dry before you pick them.
Reply:sweet peas and beans are really fun to grow, becasue they grow so quickly and the flowers are pretty.
You can take the pods off and eat them just as they are at any time when they seem ready. Some people like them to be really tiny and eat them whole when they are tender and young.
Some like to let the peas inside grow and then take those out of the pod and eat those by themselves.
Fresh vegetables are the best.. steam them, a tiny bit of salt, and there you go.. enjoy!
Reply:Since the sweet peas are done blooming, you can leave those pods on the vine until just before the first frost. Then pick the pods, take the seeds out and store them. They are free seeds for next years planting. Or, let mother nature take care of it. The pods will dry, hang on the vine and hopefully pop open to allow the seeds to drop and start new plants. I have found this to be the easiest, but do often times need to help the seeds out of the pod mid winter by rubbing them open. Happy planting. And aren't those sweet peas just the most fragrant for such a small flower. Love em.,
Reply:Because you have left the pods on this is why you have no flowers, once a plant thinks it has enough seeds it will stop producing flowers, when growing in future take seed pods as soon as they begin if you want the seed for the following year leave to ripen you will be able to feel the pea's inside the pod,
for all plants as the flowers die of you should remove them except when growing on for seed's.

Question about sweet pea seeds...???
Should I pick the pods now while they are still green and then lay out the seeds to dry...?
or
Is it best to wait until the pods are dry and then pick them from the vines...?
or
Are both ways okay?
Question about sweet pea seeds...???
No. If you are going to save seeds from your vines, it is best to wait until they are dry and papery and then put them in a paper bag and hang them with a clothespin in a warm and dry place. When they burst open in the bag, you can collect them and put them in a cool and dry place until ready to plant.

How do you stop the water smelling like a compost heap when your'e using the vase for sweet peas?
Should the water be changed everyday?
How do you stop the water smelling like a compost heap when your'e using the vase for sweet peas?
Try putting in a little bleach and re-cut the ends on an angle. This should also extend the life of the cuttings.
Reply:Wash the vase out with hot sudsy water, then add fresh tap water. You may need to do this on a daily basis to keep the smell down.
Reply:In warm weather, not that we have had an awful lot of that lately, if you have time, change water daily. If you are a tad forgetful, like me, try putting a small drop of bleach in the water to start with. Works for me.
Reply:I do not like bleach in the water and I do not think the flowers do either. A squeeze of lemon juice, fresh or concentrated real lemon juice, but I often use vinegar. Two teaspoons to the liter. Change water every other day.
Off the subject:
As far as bleach goes it is used in warm climates to "purify" vegetables grown in the EARTH, i.e. carrots, lettuce, radishes, cabbage and other vegetables, esp. if eaten raw.
I scrub first and leave in bleach and water for 20 minutes and then drain/allow to dry, (even for cantaloupe and papaya). Ratio is 2 teaspoons per liter. This prevents abrorption of paracytes and amebes.
Reply:every other day.
Reply:usr flat lemonade it makes the flowers last longer and does not smell or stain the vase.
Reply:You should really change the water everyday if possible, but a drop of bleach in the water will stop it smelling nasty and extend the life of your flowers. I also every other day cut a tiny bit off the stems and add some lemonade to the water as it feeds the flowers and makes them last even longer.

When to plant sweet peas?
When should I plant my sweet pea seeds?
When to plant sweet peas?
as long as the soil is not too moist. Test it by taking a handful and squeezing it. If it stays together as a lump you are good to go. Sweet peas like to germinate in cool soil.
Right now where I am I am planning on sowing them on Friday.
I would ( and will) soak them in a glass of water for 24 hours before hand. This just gives them a helping hand in braking the outside protective coating.
Have fun.
Reply:You didn't say where you live, but in general after danger of frost has past for spring planting, and you can also plant in fall when the heat of summer has started to fade and you expect slightly cooler days. heat will shorten the life of the plants and they should bloom until first fairly hard frost. to speed up germination soak the seeds in water over night and plant about 1 " deep-Mitch
Reply:I would plant them now. A little trick of the trade is to soak your seeds over night in lukewarm water. More on the cooler side than warm. This helps them germinate faster. Then follow the package directions and make sure you remember that they need quite a bit of sun. I love sweet peas!
Reply:In Southern Australia we generally start planting sweet peas on St Patricks day (17 March). This is one of those old rules of gardening.
Using this rule of thumb anytime in early/mid Autumn would be appropriate. Things are cooling down after summer and the summer annuals are past their best. Time to replace them.
Reply:The only area where it is to cold now is the northern tear of states like: North Dakota, Main, Wisconsin, Alaska, Montana.
They can take some cold.
Reply:As soon as soil temperature's reached 50 degrees.

Can sweet peas, strawberries, raspberries and cucumbers all be planted together in one flowerbed?
No, I would plant all but the cucumbers together. You will have cucumbers climbing up your plants. They have very long vines and need room to spread out. They may smother your other plants.
Can sweet peas, strawberries, raspberries and cucumbers all be planted together in one flowerbed?
Depends on how big the bed is. You will definitely have to watch the cucumbers and their vines, they do not have deep roots, but if you do not have them climbing they may strangle your other plants.
Word of caution: the strawberries will spread like you cannot imagine! By next year they can quadruple!
Reply:i have no idea but you could try............
Reply:Just remember the strawberries and the raspberries are perrinials, and both will spread out quite a bit. If I were you I would give these plenty of room.
Reply:Yes, but watch out for the cucumbers, they really spread.

How can I spice up some sweet peas?
INGREDIENTS
15 ounces peas
1/4 cup chopped red onion
2 tablespoons dill pickle relish, drained
1 hard-cooked egg, chopped
1 large jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup shredded pepperjack cheese
salt to taste
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, combine peas, onion, relish, egg and jalapeno. Stir in mayonnaise and cheese. Chill for at least two hours before serving.
INGREDIENTS
1 (3 pound) boneless corned beef brisket
1 1/2 cups peas
1 large head cabbage, quartered
1 medium turnip, peeled and cubed
6 carrots, peeled and cut in chunks
6 large potatoes, peeled and quartered
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Dumplings:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup water
DIRECTIONS
Cover the corned beef with cold water and soak overnight in the refrigerator.
Drain the beef and place in a large Dutch oven. Cover with fresh water. Place the yellow peas in a triple layer of cheesecloth and tie securely. Place the bag inside the Dutch oven with the beef. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 2 hours.
After 2 hours, add the chopped cabbage, turnip, and carrots to the pot. Simmer for 25 minutes.
Add the chopped potatoes and simmer an additional 20 to 25 minutes, or until all of the vegetables are fork tender.
While the vegetables are cooking, prepare the dumpling dough as follows: Combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl, then add the water a little bit at a time to make a pasty dough. You may not need to add all of the water. Divide the dough into 6 balls. Be careful not to over-handle the dough.
During the last 5 to 10 minutes of simmering the vegetables, place the dough balls on top of the vegetables and cover with a lid. Allow the dumplings to steam in the pot for 7 minutes.
When the dumplings are cooked through, remove all ingredients from the pot and arrange on a warm serving platter. Remove the cooked peas from the cheesecloth bag and mash with the butter and black pepper. Serve alongside the beef and vegetables.
INGREDIENTS
10 ounces peas
1 (15 ounce) can sliced beets, drained and diced
2 tablespoons chopped onion (optional)
1/2 cup creamy salad dressing, e.g. Miracle Whip ™
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, mix together the peas, beets, onion and salad dressing. Refrigerate until cold, about 30 minutes, before serving.
Reply:my mother used to serve "creamed" peas. I knowi t had flower and milk in it and a little cornstarch, and maybe a tad of sugar. It was great...
on holidays mom would add the Christmas nut roll that had raisins and poppyseed in it with sugar, but in broken off pieces of the roll into a can of sweet peas. It tasted scrumptuous.
Reply:Sautee up some pancetta in a non stick pan. Let it get crispy. Once this is done add the peas and sautee with a little salt and pepper. YUM!
Reply:Occasionally I crush some rosemary and add it to the peas while they are cooking - just to give it a little something different.
Also, occasionally I cook the peas and corn and crushed rosemary together.
I like either of these when I am serving chicken of some kind.

Can you grow Sweet Peas or Nicotiana as house plants?
I am without a garden right now, but I would love to grow some favourites indoors anyway.
Thank you.
Can you grow Sweet Peas or Nicotiana as house plants?
Sweetpeas need deep soil with plenty of well roted manure to flourish so the answer to that is no. Nicotiana on the other hand should do well indoors as long as you give them a feed once a fortnight and make sure they get plenty of water.
Reply:I should'nt think so.
Reply:You could try the sweet peas near the window and let them have as much light as possible and go for the smaller variety as you do not want 6ft flowers indoors, and the nicotiana should be no problem. Any chance of a window box until you have a garden.
Reply:What you need to do is to plant these in a trough instead of pots, that way the plants have more room to put their roots into.
Because these garden plants need light all around you need to imitate the light outside, you need a big cardboard box and have it so that you have 3 sides and the top is open, cover two opposite sides and the back with kitchen foil, stand the trough up so that it is on the side that has no foil on it, the three sides that have the foil on them should be facing the window so that when the natural light hits the kitchen foil the plants have an all round natural light supply

Thank you.

Who is the little girl Tommy Roe sings to in the music video "Sweet Pea"?
In 1966 there was a song called "Sweet Pea" by Tommy Roe. There is an old black and white video with him singing it and he has a bunch of kids around him. I believe the show was a children's program but I am not sure. Does anybody know who the little girl was that Tommy Roe was singing to? She looks very familiar, maybe an actress now. The video itself is on the "YouTube" website under the name "Sweet Pea". Alot of people have wondered(including myself)if the little girl is his daughter or not. Thank you for any help here from Yahoo members!
Who is the little girl Tommy Roe sings to in the music video "Sweet Pea"?
just from observation by watching on youtube, I would say it is his daughter that he's singing to. especially since she seems so familiar with him and knows all the lyrics too.

Can sweet peas seeds be sown directly ouside and if so from what month?
Im in the UK and they will be sown into troughs/planters....
Can sweet peas seeds be sown directly ouside and if so from what month?
If you are planting outside, no need to wait until danger of last frost. Peas are extremely hardy. Sweet peas, vegetable and/or flower, only need for the soil to be 40 degrees. People here in MI, go out and move the snow and put the seeds into the ground. Sweet peas need to be striated which is to file the outside coat or nick. Soaking is much easer. Soak the peas in bowl overnight. Those that float to the top are no good. They should sink to the bottom. I would give them at least 24 hours. The seed coat is so hard that without help, the little seedlings find it hard to break the coat. A good 24 hour soak should take care of that. Make sure that when you plant, you give them something to climb on. Putting in the trellis or pole at planting is better as if you wait until they have grown up, you are in danger of severing the roots. So put in the stakes, sticks, whatever as soon as you plant.
Reply:Yes. If you don't get much in the way of winter - anytime. They like cool weather, and can take light frosts.
Reply:In SW Missouri in the US I plant them in February, around Valentine's day. Whenever I can get my trowel into the ground.
Reply:Sweet Peas do great from seed. ALthough you may want to either knick the seed coat OR soak overnight first. They take a few days to poke though the soil in a greenhouse kit so I imagine they will take a bit longer outside. You can plant them as soon as the danger of freezes is over i think.

Seeds from sweet peas fell off when plant flowers died in the fall, will these seeds take root, this year?
My dead sweetpea stems are still on my treliss. It is spring now, is it too late to cut them back? I was told they were annuals, but they were up when we moved in 2 years ago, and came up again last year. The seeds from the pods, fell onto the ground when flowers died. Will those seeds take roots and grow this year ?

If you have had a mild winter you may get some self setters. The best thing to do is harvest the seed in fall, keep them frost free and dry throught the winter, then plant them in 3'' pots in spring. You can then plant them where you like without transplanting.
Reply:yep --they probably will--are you talking bout edible sweet peas --English peas to some people--or the vine called sweet peas that is inedible--if its the former--they maybe immature seeds and will not come up-- if they are the flowering kind they will do what nature meant for them to do and replenish their self
Reply:quite likely. Nasturtiums do this as well. Planted some 5 yrs ago, they seed themselves every year and give me free plants. The autumn frosts kill off the plants but I find the seeds germinate all through the winter

How do sweet peas know which way to grow to grab a fence or post? I have seen them lean over to grab a post.?
And some people will tell you there is no God. I think one of the most amazing wonders in nature is how plants know things. Like, how do they know to grow their leaves and branches out to a point so sharp that it can pierce your skin with only minor pressure. How do they know what causes us pain? It blows the mind.
How do sweet peas know which way to grow to grab a fence or post? I have seen them lean over to grab a post.?
They don't "know". They just do. Like ivy, or clamatis, or any other climbing plant. Some do and some don't. Cucumbers will climb a trellis if one is close enough, if not they just run along the ground till they "touch" something. I bet it has to do with the natural instinct to put as many leaves as possible as high as possible to get as much sun as possible. That sounds possible! :)
Reply:Although they seem to "reach out and grab" something that they can't possibly SEE...it's not sight that gets them there.
If you were to film the plant 24 hours a day, and then speed it up to look at it, you'll find that it moves around quite a bit while growing. If the tendril actually hits somthing, it will impede the movement long enough so that the quick growing tendrils' sprialing affect will catch the object.

No sign of my Sweet Pea, (Quaker Parrot) been 3 days now. What you thinik?
I am so sorry. I understand how your feeling. I kept looking for ours for weeks. Don't give up hope though. There have been stories where parrots have turned up, after being gone for a long time. I really do hope you find her...

Reply:If you have done all the things to find SP, do them again. Talk to every neighbor within 6 blocks around you, post flyers, get on the radio lost/found pets, call every vet, the humane society and keep looking. She will be very hungry now and searching for food.
I pray SP is found. It is deadly out there for parrots.

I planted sweet peas in my Santa Cruz, CA garden in March and I've only seen one sprout! Why?
This is more or less the same time I've planted for several years with huge success.I have used essentially the same brand of seeds. We have had an inordinate amount of rain this year.
I planted sweet peas in my Santa Cruz, CA garden in March and I've only seen one sprout! Why?
As I recall, you guys had a really wet spring? It could be that with the combination of wet and cold weather, the seeds have rotted in the ground. If you replant now you should be okay.
Reply:because the seeds maybe old and not plantable. Or maybe its the soil.

Any tips for prizewinning sweet peas?
I want to win the cup this year. I grow 'em cordon method and cut off side shoots et cetera but so does everyone else. I need an edge!
Any tips for prizewinning sweet peas?
For a start sow the seeds in the Autumn, pinch the tip out after three leaves and overwinter in cold frame or frostfree greenhouse and then plant out in Spring. As rightly said deeply dug and well manured. good luck.
Reply:Grow them indoors, i.e. in a greenhouse, but make sure the glass is slightly shaded otherwise they'll get scorched and burned. Keep the air slightly moist by misting once or twice a day. Use good quality plant food (not manure! it's too strong), good quality compost and just the right amount of watering. Also, choose a good strong breed in the first place. Keep air movement and drafts to an absolute minimum, any movement of the leaves and especially the flowers, will cause them to grow slightly smaller than they otherwise would. Sssshhhhhhhh!
Reply:Lots of manure works wonders. I know this sounds obvious but it makes such a huge difference to the blooms.
Reply:Rub seeds with sandpaper %26amp; plant seeds individually in compost inside the cardboard tube from a toilet roll. (Tube is half-filled with the compost. This encourages both roots %26amp; shoots to grow straight).
Start in greenhouse or on windowsill; plant outside after frosts.

What type of pest or insect eats pea plants?
I've had 2 new vegetable sweet pea plants disappear from my garden. (They were not stolen and 6" tall.) Something must've eaten them because there is is no visible trace of the stem or plant itself. It is 100% gone. What could be eating pea plants so hungrily?
What type of pest or insect eats pea plants?
Mice and aphids are number one enemies of the young plants and seeds; so are slugs and snails! Wrong time of year for aphids... I bet it was some snails!
Reply:Bunnies are another possibility, or squirrels, chipmunks, etc. Nice new green things may be irresistible to something in your near area.
Reply:Rabbits or ground hogs. Ground hogs love peas and beans and will eat them to the ground. So will deer. Good luck, I have had to give up my vegetable garden completely because of the critters, and I can't do anything about it because I live next to a woods except a tall and deep fence.
You can get a game camera, it works on an infrared light and will take pictures of whatever is eating your garden, at at least the mystery will be solved.
Reply:Rabbits love fresh pea and bean sprouts. By the way, baked rabbit with dumplings is delicious.

Am growing sweet peas inside to give a head start. Soil is mildewy. Help?
I removed the plastic top cover %26amp; turned on a sun lamp. However, many of the seeds haven't germinated yet. What should I do?
Am growing sweet peas inside to give a head start. Soil is mildewy. Help?
From my experience, sweet peas do not transplant well. The mildew grew before you removed the top cover so that means they weren't getting enough air circulation. I would wait until it is mild enough to plant outdoors.
The Muse
Reply:I like to use NO DAMP. It's a liquid I mix with the water %26amp; it sterilizes the soil so tender new plants don't rot off at the surface of the soil. Good Luck with your sweet peas.
The Muse Report It
Reply:i agree with Raul. but i would wait a while longer before throwing the seeds away, sometimes it take a long time for them to germinate.
Reply:Start over. Use new dirt, and not so much water.

Project Runway: Sweet Pea Returns?
I was looking at the site, and even though we have, after last night (the reunion episode, which I DVR'd and havesn't seen yet), still another couple episodes before the winner is chosen.
Anyway, last I knew Sweet Pea was eliminated, then I look online as see that she has a collection and shows at Bryant Park. WTH? I mean, why not just tell me who won too? And how did Sweet Pea get back on? I agree that she deserves it, but what is the point of the competition if they don't even follow their own rules? Its supposed to be 2 people that make it to Bryant. Last year they couldn't choose and made it 3. This year, they still couldn't choose, made it 3, changed their mind, and upped it to 4? Its getting sort of pointless I think.
Anyone else have on opinion here?
Project Runway: Sweet Pea Returns?
The final five were all allowed to put on shows at Bryant Park, but only three will have their shows on TV. They do this so no one can spoil who the final three are, prior to the shows airing (Fashion Week had already happened, at that point). I believe they have done this every season. And, every season iit is supposed to be 3 finalists. There were four last year - Uli, Michael, Jeffrey and Laura. This year, they seemed to have to same dilemma - they couldn't, in good conscience, dump either Chris or Rami, since they are both very talented designers with very different aesthetics. This extra final challenge for the two of them is new.
Reply:E! channel let it go last week, the winner is designing a dress for the Oscars and E! named the winner. The winner has been revealed! I am so upset about how this season unfolded, my only question is how, and why is Sweet pea back? Sympathy? I don't want to spoil it for you so I won't, but I'm sure you can look it up if you are curious!!
Reply:Each season has had a designer create a decoy collection. Perhaps Sweet Pea was allowed to back to do this. I think though there is only 1 or 2 more episodes left to air this season. One is the runway show and maybe one where Tim visits the finalists' homes.
Reply:Season 1 there were three
Season 2 there were three
Season 3 there were four
This season there will only be three Chris and Romi have to battle it out for the spot, spoiler-wise i don't think sweet pea comes back for bryant park but i don't know
they like to keep twists and thats why they change their rules
Reply:Project Runway always has a decoy that participate in the Bryant Park show. There were two decoys, and Sweet Pea was one of them. Next week, we will find out between Chris and Rami who the other decoy is. Although, they were allowed to showcase their designs at Bryant Park, they are not competing to win the money or title as the Project Runway winner. They have decoys to prevent spoiling who the 3 remaining designers are.
Reply:Bryant Park isn't affiliated with Project Runway, meaning any one can show a collection there.
Remember when Kevin (the big straight guy) got kicked off? He stated that he was going to show at Bryant Park anyhow. There were non PR finalists who had a collection at Bryant Park last year also.

It's pretty lame to ask strangers to give you a term of endearment for your own son. Report It

Reply:"Son" would be my first choice, but I reckon must people would think that's too formal. "Champion" would stress that he is confident on his ability and value. That leaves out all hidden meanings, allowing me to choose who I prefer to be.

I know most are meant to climb upwards but there are also those that like to grow down from a hanging basket - could you please let me know which varieties these are please?

Amos Lee - Sweet Pea?
I'm confused, is what he's saying
"Sweet Pea, apple of my eye"? or "Sweet Pea, Pebble of my eye"? I check the lyrics and it sais Apple of my eye, but when I listen to it normally, it sounds like pebble, but when I listen to it very closely... it STILL sounds like Pebble

Sweet pea
Apple of my eye
Don't know when and I don't know why
You're the only reason I keep on coming home
Sweet pea
What's all this about
Don't get your way all you do is fuss and pout
You're the only reason I keep on coming home
I like the Rock of Gibraltar
I always seem to falter
And the words just get in the way
Oh I know I'm gonna crumble
I'm trying to stay humble
But I never think before I say
Sweet pea
Keeper of my soul
I know sometimes I'm out of control
You're the only reason I keep on coming
You're the only reason I keep on coming yeah
You're the only reason I keep on coming home

And the words just get in the way
Oh I know I'm gonna crumble
I'm trying to stay humble
But I never think before I say
Sweet pea
Keeper of my soul
I know sometimes I'm out of control
You're the only reason I keep on coming
You're the only reason I keep on coming yeah
You're the only reason I keep on coming home
Sweet pea tattoo?
I am going to get a sweet pea tattoo. If someone told you a reason why they were getting this type would this be a good answer- Its my birthmonths flower, i love the smell, my dad passed and the song sweet pea we would listen to and i would sing it, my dentist would sing it to me, I have scoliosis and sweet peas need support as a brace to a curved spine would need, and the seeds are poisoness leaving you paralyzed like surgery on scoliosis may do to you. Are those good reasons, and if someone told you that would you be like cool? or like....ummm... ok..
Also, i'm thinking about putting it on my ankle, are there any other good places that might look?
Sweet pea tattoo?
I think those are perfectly lovely reasons, but a tattoo is something special for you, so if those are the reasons why you have that particular design then it does not matter what other people think. And no I don't think it would look odd to have the same tattoo is different places of your body, but keep looking, over time you may come across something else that has special meaning for you.
Reply:Get whatever makes you happy. Stop worrying about what strangers think about it, I like the idea and I love that it has strong meaning for you. The ankle would be nice, also the middle of the back..kinda high up near the neck. Make sure you take time in picking out the right artist also. Check out portfolios and make sure the shop is clean.
Reply:That tattoo has alot of meaning, it is very special to you, and I think it's a great idea. I also think itll look good on your ankle, or maybe your shoulder. Good luck!!
Reply:Remember, you're getting a tattoo for you, not for anyone else. Don't worry what other people think. It sounds like it means a lot to you and that's what matters. Good luck!
Reply:I think its a great idea, it has a meaning to you and thats all that matters. I also LOVE anything sweetpea fraganced (hence the screen name lol )

My Sweet Pea is still not home, been 2 weeks 3 days, is there still hope?
My Quaker Parrot?
My Sweet Pea is still not home, been 2 weeks 3 days, is there still hope?
your quaker may come back there is never been a given time period of how long a pet bird can survive. Quakers are know to stay within 500 yards of the nest ( cage). also put up posters around your area letting people know sweet pea is lost. someone may have found him and taken him in. good luck and let me know how it turns out.
Reply:There is always hope until you give up hoping.
Reply:There is always hope, quakers are hardy little birds. I have heard so many stories of people loosing their birds, and then getting them back months later. One woman had lost an amazon, and it was found by someone else 60 miles away! Quakers are extremely smart birds too. They have wild colonies in several states: new york , new jersey, Texas, Deleware, conneticut and Florida (just to name a few). I'm not sure where you live, but in the wild they usually nest in urban areas, and near transformers and light fixtures (Like stadium lights). They have even been known to visit bird feeders with wild birds! We lost one of our quakers last year when we were letting the dog back in, and she flew out the door. We never found her but it was extremely cold the next day, and it snowed 4 inches. I like to think someone found her and took her in, it happens! Since you lost her while it's been warmer, she will be able to survive temperture changes and find food. I would make sure you put out flyers, run ads in your local papers, also there is a lost bird site on the net I will try to find again for you that goes state to state- for people that lose or find birds. Make sure you go to your local human society and bird rescues also and submit flyers to them, alot of people that find birds, take them there. Good luck - I hope she comes home....Okay the website to look on for found birds and to submit your lost bird is www.birdhotline.com , I put my quaker on here too when she flew away.
Reply:A Quaker is probably fine.
They can survive and form wild flocks in many northern cities.
As far as coming home, a feeder may lure him back.
Cover a quarter mile in all directions from your home.
Will he come to you? Use his favorite call.
Good luck but it's a longshot.

Just do all that you can. Go for walks near the place that he flew from and then go as far as you think that he would be able to fly. Call his name and make noises that he is familiar with. Even bring a toy that he really liked.
Knock on peoples doors and show a picture of him. Put up flyers that have a huge pic of him on it so when people are driving by they get a good glance at the bird.
Offer a reward. If you can't afford allot then offer as much as you can but don't put how much it is on the flyers
Go to the local market and talk to the checkers there to see if they know anything. People like to chit chat at the checkout.
Put an add in the regular paper and one in the freebie paper.
Put his cage outside in a real easy for a bird to see place and leave the door open. Early morning is a good time for birds to be moving around. Keep it out there day and night if you want to but you could be turning it into a bird feeder. So it might be better to bring it in at dark.
Call the bird rescues in your area and see of anyone has posted that they found him and leave a post that he is missing. And do the same with the animal control.
And most of all.....don't give up hope.
My dog that was my best friend and bud was gone one day...and I finally found him......5 months later. So do not give up.
That's all I can think of to do. When you talk to the animal shelters they may have more suggestions.
If you really, really want to see Sweet Pea again you will be doing all of these things. I'm not saying that this is 100% that you will get him back...but at least you know that you really did do all that you could possibly do to get him home.
But don't feel bad if you don't get him back. If this happens then it is way more than likely that someone has him and he is ok....just not home.
Good luck...and I really hope your Sweet Pea comes home.
Reply:if it flew away forget it. Tame birds get disoriented when they get free out of doors. It is miles away!! Quakers are notoriously independent. They survive well loose. Most major cities have groups of them living in colonies. Even Chicago!! and it gets 20 below zero in the winter there. He/she may have already found a mate and be living a happy married life.

How would you feel if someone called you a "sweet pea"?
We would feel lighter than air, which as you know, there is none on the moon, so you can imagine just how very-highly happy we would be.
Reply:It's a little corny, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it.
Reply:Buttercup, sweet pea... I like all your knicknames hun. I have to agree with answer 1, it sounds a little country. but if you didnt use an accent when you said it, it would be fine.

SWEET PEA...How did oyu get rid of your termites???
I also rent my house and have just noticed alot of termites in my kitchen cabinets and bathrooms...they are really disgusting me and i wanted to know if there are any easy ways of getting rid of them without going through an exterminator???
SWEET PEA...How did oyu get rid of your termites???
you cant really, theres nothing legal on the shelves for consumers to buy that will dispose of all termites in your house. just call around and get measurements before you choose one (get the cheapest if thats the problem)

How much space (depth and width) would I need for my sweet peas?
I am planning on growing sweet peas along the wall of my house and am going to sow the seeds in long wooden planters - in light of this what do you recommend the size of these planters to be?
How much space (depth and width) would I need for my sweet peas?
Last year, I had started sweetpeas in a plastic window box. It was about 7inches high X 5inches wide and 2 1/2 feet long. By the time they were 1/2foot tall their roots were congested('rootbound') with each other and had reached well to the bottom. It was a tangled mess and they couldn't be transplanted. So i suppose you must build a bit deeper than I did. I am trying sweetpeas again this year since they grow so well from seed. I already have several well on their way and planted in a garden bed with a 6' trellis behind them. It is important to have something for them to support themselves on at a very low height. My trellis goes all the way to ground level. Some ppl start at 1foot but that would not be good for these plants. Hope i helped some. This is only my second year gardenin %26amp; I'm still just learning.
Reply:That is probably a trial and error type of consideration.
You must allow probably 9" to 12" indepth. That allows for plenty of room for the roots. I would also go with the same size for the width. If you make have one too small and need it bigger then you have a size issues.
If you look at the sizes on this link you can get a general idea.
http://www.bytheyard.net/planters-c-10.h...
and
http://www.calibex.com/balcony-planter/z...
They all appear to be 9" deep or more.
Edited: You need to consider the size being next to the house which will dwarf the looks of planter if not appropriate in size.
Reply:Well as far as depth an average window box depth of about 8 or 9 in. will be fine, Sweet peas are an annual and traditionally shallow rooted. Length depends on how much wall you are trying to cover. your real thing is going to be height I have been very successful with mine and have had vines over 10 feet tall. so on top of your container you need something for them to climb up. Make sure that what ever it is that it is secure, my first attempt at sweet peas was a success but the trellis was not secure and the weight of the vines kept pulling it down over time because it became so top heavy. Good luck.
Reply:You can use small windowbox-sized boxes if you like. I'd say a minimum of 5-6 inches deep and across...and as long as you like. If you use bigger boxes, they won't need to be watered as often. They small ones you'll need to water every day.
Reply:I've never grown sweet peas in containers, but I wouldn't imagine they need much room at all. I used to grow regular peas in a window box - you could probably use something just as small. Although if you get something bigger of course you could put in some nice bedding plants too - that's up to you.
Basically, I reckon anything will do, as long as you keep them fed and watered : )

When is the best time to plant Sweet Peas for my December 08 wedding?
I wish to grow my own little garden of flowers to be used in my wedding next year. Reds and purples are what I'm aiming for in Sweet Peas, Roses and Tulips.

Reply:Sweet peas should be planted in the late winter, February is a good time, they need the cold to germinate.I don't know if they will still be around for a December wedding as they will be killed back when it freezes. Tulips bloom in April-May and roses in the summer. You can force tulips to bloom, and some roses bloom continuously through the summer, depending on where you are.
