Why do cats hide underneath the bed?

It's fine if they want to be alone, or have a change of scenery. Or if they're hiding from my mom, Sweet Pea, my brother, etc. But they're hard to get out, when not on their own. Sometimes if I put treats near them, they come out. Sometimes water works. But other times, I have to give them a little boost to head to the other side of the bed to come out. This usually happens when it's time to put them back in their room, (more Marshall than Wylie.) And then I pick them up. Any ideas on how to get them out otherwise, or why they do it?

Why do cats hide underneath the bed?
They hide under the bed because it's a good place and it's hard for you to get them. Obviously they don't like going to their room. Why?

The only way to get them out is probably the same as what you are doing, enticing them with treats.

What I do besides the treat trick. Sometimes if I get a toy with a long string on it and just walk back and forth until I get their attention, then out of the out of the room, they will chase it, then you grab em, and put them in the dungen. They will get wise to this trick soon and you will have to come up with another. Why don't they like there room? Is the room you are trying to get them out of yours? they probably want to be with you. Is there a reason they cannot? The only way I can see to resolve the problem is make going to their room something to look forward to. Like pick that time to feed them.

Since you didn't give any clue as to what their

room is like it's hard to say.

I don't think you are giving them enough attention.

Do they have a window to look out of in their room? You can get a kitty hammock, put it by the window. Use your imagination be creative you need to fix up the cats room to be some where that is fun and comfortable.

Just thought of a way. Get the vacuum cleaner, all cats and dogs go running when they see this monster coming!
Reply:safe spot to hide
Reply:Hi cats like to hide so they have thier own space or just for fun. My cats hide under the bed if i'm looking for them to take them outside and they don't want to be found yet lol.
Reply:It is also a place to launch "counter attacks" they peek out from under the bed skirts or bed and look at the feet of other pets/people walking by and feel "superior" because they are "fooling" you all with their "sneaky prowess" ...

It is also dark %26amp; quiet and cool. They get to chill and sleep and be left all alone..Either let them be or try picking up the edge of the bed and letting it bang on the floor or shaking the bed back and forth. They will run when all that goes down!
Reply:It's a place they can go where they can be left alone. Cats need a place to feel secure when they are feeling a little stressed.

Sometimes even we humans need some space, so do cats!
Reply:Cats are not social animals they like to be independent and thats why they hide they want attention when they want it on their terms. There aresome breds are more social them others .
Reply:House cats' wild ancestors sought refuge in dens and holes. Under a bed is to them like a burrow where they can feel safe.
Reply:So your cats have their own room. right? If so, than there can be a lot of explanation. One of them is that, maybe your cat is afraid of something that is that room, so when you try to put him(her) back in there, it hides, so you can not reach him (her). That's what happened to my kitty. Good luck figuring it out!
Reply:Something has startled them or they wish to be alone. Some folks may want to prod them out with a broom, but if they are under there because they know you plan to take them to the vet, upend the bed from the foot and guess who will come running out. It's a lot easier if you have a single bed, but hopefully you have a friend who will lift the bed and you perform the capture.
Reply:its a place where humans find hard to get to. its dark. its secluded. its secure.

the perfect hiding spot.

the action makes you try and figure out how to get him out.. so your cats like games.

they'll come out when they want to.

...
Reply:they are scard
Reply:*they just want the solitude and to be left alone.
Reply:mostly shy cats hide underneath the bed because they feel safe there cuz no one can get to them. i learned from experience that cats don't like to be forced from coming out from behind beds. so if you're not in a hurry be patient and slowly your cat will emerge (hey she'll have to emerge to get to litter box). and if they look scared, stear clear for now, and try to be with them when they are in a better mood.
Reply:It's a safe haven. Dark and quiet. Mostly when they don't like someone or something and they are tring to find the safest spot to be secure.

Try to get them used to the people they are around or whatever is scaring them. Sound's like you have a full house and a lot for them to be scared of. It's hard to get them used to to much at once. Time will probable help and lot's of love and patience.
Reply:Sometimes they hide cause they r scared and maybe they dont want to go to their room. Maybe you could rearange their room and then they would be curious because you know how cats are and come out.
Reply:Here's a trick most people don't know about. Every time you feed your cats, and I mean every time, tap their bowl with a spoon or fork whatever you are using to fork out the wet/dry food (the bowl would have to be china not plastic) even when they are stood in the kitchen waiting to eat tap the bowl from the time you pick it up and walk it to their eating spot, tapping it the entire time (of course not while they are eating..lol). They will soon learn to associate this noise with food. Sooner or later whenever you tap the bowl they should come running from wherever they are hiding. I was able to call my outdoor cats home, if they were within ear shot they would come running. My ex bf didn't believe that this would work, so when we got a new cat I started doing it every time I fed him, one day he went under the bed and we couldn't get him out, so I tapped the bowl and he came charging into the kitchen.

Cat's aren't sociable creatures so they go off by themselves to basically be alone and get away from annoying humans. Hiding under the bed or in a tiny space is probably their safe place where they feel secure, it's a cat thing.

Good Luck
