Why is my female cockatiel making a funny noise?

My Sweet Pea is about 1 year old we got her from a pet store. She loves it when you rub her head all the way down her back but she makes a sweet noise when you do this to her. While you are rubbing her neck her chest drops down on the table and her head tilts back and her butt is in the air. And thats when she will make that funny noise. Husband said it sounds like a light singing chirpping. Why does she do this???????

Well . . . it sounds to me like you have a cockatiel that wants to mate with you. That coo is a mating noise and you shouldn't promote that if you can help it. You don't want your bird to respond to you like that, it can lead to behavioral issues. I suggest not petting her all the way down the back. Keep it towards the head area and if she still does it, just walk away and come back when she stops. Hopefully that will stop the behavior.
Reply:OK well this could be 2 things.... some birds do that because they remember doing that when they were a baby being fed... or some birds do that when they are mating, it is the same thing so you can not really tell for sure... bu8t either way this is a good thing, it means that your bird is comfortable and content being with you... do not worry about a thing..

Reply:My cockatiel was doing the exact same thing. She wants a mate, she will probably lay an egg soon.
