Doest your cat smell up the house after using the litter box?

my new little cat is 9 months old. I have only 1 previous experience with a cat. That was Sweet Pea and we lived together for 9 years. I don't recall her poop ever smelling really. But Igmu, my current cat, her's is so horrible! I can almost not stand it! It is like a rancid smell? what is this from?

Doest your cat smell up the house after using the litter box?
He may not be burying it. The food might be too much fat in it. You may be feeding him table scraps which cats should not have. The litter may be dirty. Check it out. Good luck.
Reply:I find my cats crap to be nasty as well, but whos doesn't stink??

what kind of food does it eat?
Reply:I know what you mean - when my cat is doing a poo, it really stinks the place out until she gets it covered in litter and then the smell dies down pretty quickly. Try Catsan - great at killing the smell quickly. Also, when buying catfood have a look on the pack - some claim to not make the poo smell so bad. Not sure if their claims are true though !
Reply:Do yourself a favor %26amp; get rid of it. How can you host a dinner party with a house that makes people want to get sick. Take it from me, not worth it!
Reply:Sometimes their poo will smell more if you give them wet canned food rather than dry food.

Try sprinkling some baking soda in her litter box.
Reply:get some 'Oust'!
Reply:The usual cause of atrocious smelling feces is diet. It's always a good idea to get a fecal analysis done to rule out parasites, though.

Even if you are feeding #2 the same food that #1 ate, it could still be the culprit. Cats are individuals and a food that agrees with one may not agree with the other.

On top of that, kittens are known for their funky digestion. It may work itself out in time. Or not.

I would reconsider what you're feeding her. Canned food is better, raw meat is best (requires supplementation/research). And of course, you'll have good results with grainless foods.

My girls are now fed both raw meat and some canned food. I won't say it doesn't smell, but it no longer permeates the house or chokes us up.
Reply:EW get rid of it.That must be embarrassing when people come over.Cats are so disgusting.Very filthy animals those things are.yuck
Reply:i have 3 cats, they all eat the same food but 1 is very wiffy when she has a poop......... we always kow when "Martha" has used the tray.........
Reply:You may want to consider contacting your vet for recommendations about types of cat food that would be kinder on your kitties digestive system. Is Igmu still on kitten food? Have you made a recent change in his food? Are you feeding him a low ash product?

Don't forget about treats. Have they changed recenlty?

I hope you and your kitty find a product that can help both of you.
Reply:There could be a few reasons. Has the kitten been dewormed?? If not, that can produce smelly loose stools... also, his/her diet is key. Try changing the food to a good one... I don't know what you are feeding the kitten right now, but dry food is good in very small quantities. Many studies have proben that wet food is much better for your cat... and a good quality one. Also, keep the litter box as clean as you can... scooping every day. If it is scoopable litter, then clean and wash the pan every 2-3 weeks... depending on how dirty it gets. If the smell continues and get worse after a diet change, then you need to consult your vet.
Reply:she may have something wrong with her take her to the vet to be sure
Reply:yes it does smell
