Sweet Peas in a Can...cooking suggestions?

It's a side dish so it doesn't have to be anything fancy, but I've never made anything with Sweet Peas so I don't know how to cook them...

Pour into a pot, add a little pepper and onion pwoder, add a Tbsp of butter, and warm thoroughly. Serve.
Reply:Canned sweet peas aren't too good cooked. Chilled, with diced celery and onion, chopped boiled egg, mayo (wasabi mayo is a nice exotic way to kick it up), and just a touch of red wine vinegar and you have a nice pea salad.
Reply:sautee some chopped or diced onion and pepper, add chives, brussel sprouts, ?and(collard,"greens"),IN Olive oil.. and then ... add , a small amount of salt ,pepper, and apple vinegar(add the peas), and top your side with a small amount of Italian dressing. can add a judicious(small) amount of mayo if you let it cool down.

1 can sweet peas


1 tablespoon finely chopped onion


1 teaspoon sweet pickle relish


1 boiled egg (chopped)


1 tablespoon mayo


season to taste





mix it all up...and chill for about an hour. Really good as a side dish.

2 cans whole corn


2 tablespoons butter


2 cans green garden peas


1 teaspoon seasoning salt


1 onion, sliced





Sauté onion in butter, add other ingredients and mix well. Serve warm.
Reply:BAKED CANNED PEAS





1 can peas, drained


2 tbsp. minced onion


1/4 c. melted butter


1 tsp. sugar


3/4 tsp. salt


1 sm. lemon, thin sliced %26amp; seeded





Mix everything together but the lemon slices, and turn into a 1 quart casserole. Stand the lemon slices up in the peas at intervals. Bake 15 minutes at 135 degrees and serve hot.
Reply:stir fry them with some chilli olive oil and throw in a few pine nuts
Reply:If they are in a can don't add anything because the texture and flavour wont blend the exception would be if you have canned carrots or yams (you might try canned sliced mushroom the flavours will be similar but the texture will be different)and you could put them into the pot with the peas. Similar texture %26amp; flavour. Don't cook them, they only need to be heated for serving. When I was single, I was very good friends with cans. If it was in a can or a jar that was good enough for me. Things change but I learned a lot in those years.
Reply:This reminds me of an old college meal I once made. It's a quick casserole consisting of pasta (something like rotini or bow tie pasta), canned sweet peas, a can or two (depending on how much you like it) of tuna fish, some mustard, a little mayonnaise, and salt and pepper. For an added kick, add some crushed chili flakes, and a pinch of nutmeg.





Another quick vegetable base would be to take some of the baby carrots from the grocery store, boil/steam them until tender. Warm up the peas after you remove the carrots. In a medium saucepan (big enough to hold the vegetables) melt a few tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup of chicken stock/broth until it simmers. Add the peas and carrots and stir to mix with the buttered broth. Remove from the heat and stir in some chopped tarragon or fresh chopped mint.
Reply:drain throughly mix with a bit of mayo add some pepper and there ya have it
Reply:They are already cooked, you just add pepper and salt, and a chunk of butter. Warm slowly on stove top or best in microwave. I drain canned peas if I use them, you may add a small amount of water to them, but not a lot.





I like to make pea salad for a side dish. Depending how many cans you use, add a small jar of pimentoes drained, some chopped onion, 2 chopped hard boiled eggs, salt and pepper, bit of prepared mustard, and miracle whip salad dressing. Mix the dressing together first, then add to peas as you will mash the peas if you stir too much.
